“You're Killing Me, Smalls!” – A Sandlot Summer Session to Remember in Gilbert Arizona

This summer, I finally said yes to an idea that had been tossed around for a while… a Sandlot-inspired session for the boys. As a Gilbert Arizona child photographer (and a boy mom!), I’m always on the lookout for fresh, fun, and meaningful ways to capture the wild and wonderful spirit of young boys. So when this theme came up again, I knew it was time to step up to the plate.

It was one of the hottest days in June—no joke—but you’d never know it from the excitement these boys brought to the field. With baseball gloves in hand and vintage sodas in the other, they stepped straight into the world of the Sandlot. Some had just watched the movie for the first time that week, and they were buzzing with favorite quotes and characters. We heard a lot of:

“For-ev-er... For-ev-er… FOR-EV-ER!”

They laughed, joked, and picked who was “Benny,” who was “Squints,” and of course, who had the best version of “You’re killing me, Smalls!” It wasn’t just about baseball—it was about friendship, summer, and the kind of storytelling that makes childhood magical.

To top it all off, a family friend’s giant pup stepped in as our very own Beast. He was perfect! Watching the boys’ reactions as they recreated that part of the movie was hilarious and heartwarming.

What made this session so special wasn’t just the theme or the styling—it was the joy, connection, and energy each boy brought. It reminded me why I love what I do. These are the kinds of moments that make being a Gilbert Arizona child photographer such an honor.

To the amazing families who trusted me to bring this vision to life—thank you. And to the boys? You knocked it out of the park.
