2021 Spokesmodel Team//Arizona Child Photographer

Katie, What is a spokesmodel Team?

It’s a group of girls that have dedicated a year to working with me (I know. I am the luckiest human that these amazing kids want to stick with me for that long). Over the years I found myself routinely in the need for kids to model for creative sessions I wanted to do just for fun. After a couple of years of doing open model calls, I received such overwhelmingly positive feedback from parents saying that the experience was “encouraging and empowering". So I decided to create a program for families who wanted to work with me on creative sessions on a regular basis.

Families that join the program receive one custom session created entirely around who their daughter is. This one is honestly my absolute favorite! I love diving into the hobbies, interests and creative minds of these little souls and capturing what makes them the most excited. We also do two creative group shoots during the year with different themes. This is a chance for all of us to stretch our creative muscles and make something unique together! Last year one of the themes was “Mermaid Magic” and I was blown away by the creativity of the girls and their parents as they came up with their unique looks for the session.

I start off the year, every year, with headshots. The intention of this session is to give the girls a chance to meet me and each other before we really dive into the creative work. It’s like a warmup before the big game really starts.

This year though, COVID ruined everything (as it does).

Despite our deepest wishes the beginning of a new year did not bring the reset we all wanted and here in Arizona we had the highest numbers we had seen yet. So group pictures were out of the question. But I still wanted our headshots session to result in a group image AND give the girls a chance to know each other a little better. I asked the girls to bring in a favorite prop for their session and with a little imagination and a lot of hard work I managed to pull off a socially distanced group image AND capture a little of every girl’s personality. I hope you enjoy perusing the product of all our hard work.

While this was all a lot of fun I am so excited for late spring and our first group session when the girls will actually be able to get together and meet each other.

Sweet as Can Be//Arizona Valentine Mini Sessions

A few years ago I introduced monthly calendar sessions. These are limited engagement themed sessions celebrating the major or minor holidays that fall during the month of the session. One of the themes I struggled with the most was valentines day. I didn’t want anything romantic for these sessions, after all I work with children. I also wanted the session to be fun for boys. A couple years we tried to include pets, but not everyone had them. One year I made a giant heart out of balloons with another photographer. It was fun, but it felt wasteful to use all those balloons for just one session. Then the following year I struck upon an idea that I just KNEW would be a winner, a candy themed valentines session! It was perfect. It celebrated these little sweet loves in a sweet way they were sure to enjoy. Last year I introduced the tub full of gumballs but this year I knew I had to take it one step further….

I felt like a literal kid in a candy store with an adult sized budget running around picking out all the candy I wanted for this sweet as can be session. The rainbow suckers on the wall and the rock candy in the jars created the perfect pop of color to pull this session together. It will definitely be back next year!

If you love the look of this month’s session, you’ll definitely want to join us next month for our Floral Farmers Market on February 27th. Register Here
