Have you heard of this new type of family photography session that not a lot of photographers (or clients) are talking about? We all know the typical Gilbert family photography session set out in urban streets where the family is walking, holding hands.
Or, the family session out in a random field where everyone is posed perfectly and smiling for the camera. (shout out to this family that has pretty much done everything with me over the last decade!)
And hey, I love those as much as the next Gilbert family photographer!
But I want to talk to you about a low-stress, high-vibe, simple session type that doesn’t require bribing your husband or kids for a happy smiley family photo session!
Let’s talk about "A Day in the Life" photography sessions.
Have you heard of these?
If you're scratching your head wondering, "What on earth is that?" then you're in for a treat!
You know the day-to-day moments that seem mundane now, but you just know in 20 years, they’re going to be what you want to remember about your family?
Your favorite activities
Pancakes and cartoons on Saturday mornings.
The trips to the park after school pickup.
Mommy and me classes.
Family walks around the neighborhood.
Imagine having a photographer follow you around to capture those perfectly imperfect moments of everyday life.
“A Day in the Life" photography session is like a time capsule of your real, unfiltered family life. No need for fancy outfits or posing under studio lights. It's all about the raw, tangible memories of what your life truly feels like at this moment.
Reasons to Choose A Day in the Life Gilbert Family Photography Session
Not a lot of my clients choose this type of session because it’s something different than the norm! But I wish they would.
It’s all about Authenticity Over Perfection: There's something refreshing about capturing life as it is. These photos tell your story, the beauty in the routine, and the love that fills the ordinary moments.
No Pressure: For a busy mom, especially if you have babies and toddlers at home, the thought of coordinating a photo shoot can be daunting. "A Day in the Life" session fits seamlessly into your schedule. Whether it's your favorite Saturday activity or a mid-week hustle, it's about your life, as it is, no added stress.
Customize Your Day in The Life for your Gilbert Family Photography Session
Some families choose to have me jump into their normal routine one day, and some do a little planning ahead of time (like the family pictured here!). Here are some ideas from past “Day in The Life” Sessions:
- Playing at your favorite Park
-Baking cookies together
- A visit to the ice cream shop and shopping downtown
- a trip to target
—Painting the babies nursery
The possibilities are endless and these story telling type sessions are the perfect opportunity to create a family album! You can even include a little text talking about why your family loved this activity so much to help reignite the memories down the road.
How to Make it Happen!
If you’re anything like me, the idea of not having to coordinate outfits and stress out about if your kids will cooperate sounds pretty great! So here are some tips for making your “A Day in The Life” session a success:
Plan a day that’s a common occurrence for your family: This is going to make the session and the memories particularly special. You’ll look back and remember it as something your family did all the time, not “that one time we went to this strange new place for photos.”
Choose your activities: Start paying attention now to your day to day activities as a family. What do you do every week or every month that everyone has fun doing?
Don’t stress about how you look: I get it mama, we all want to look our best in photos, but this is about the memories (not getting everyone to look picture perfect– that includes you)!
As a your gilbert arizona family photographer, I’m so passionate about capturing these genuine moments – that sounds cliche, but it’s true!
