Finding Family in the Barn: Hailey’s Heartfelt Horse Journey

Some stories just make your heart smile—and Hailey Farran’s story is one of those. I had the joy of capturing a beautiful session with Hailey and her horse at Veteran’s Oasis Park in Gilbert, Arizona, and every moment reminded me just how special the bond between rider and horse truly is.

As a horse photographer serving Gilbert and the East Valley, it’s moments like these that make my work so rewarding. Photographing equestrians with their beloved horses allows me to freeze time and tell stories that matter.

Hailey’s love for horses started strong, but getting her very own horse was a dream come true. “Getting my first horse I didn’t have to share with someone felt surreal,” she said. That horse didn’t just give her freedom—he helped her grow as a rider. “He took me up the levels very quickly. I didn’t feel like I was stuck in my riding.”

What I loved most about Hailey’s story was how much she treasures her barn community. “We are like a big family,” she shared. “I know I will always have people in my corner and to fall back on when I need it.” Not only can you feel that love and support in the way she talks about her horses and friends, but I got to witness it firsthand during our Gilbert horse photography session.

When one of the other girls struggled to get the bridle on her horse, Hailey stepped in with patience and kindness, working with the horse to make sure her friend could have the pictures she dreamed of. That moment truly captured the spirit of the community Hailey spoke of.

One of Hailey's favorite memories is watching her friends grow and reach their goals. “I love having horses that are able to give confidence boosts to anyone who may need it, of course with a touch of winning pretty ribbons on the side!” This encouraging attitude shines through in everything she does.

Hailey also shared some wonderful advice for those just starting out on their horse journey:
“Do not compare yourself to others.” She admitted it’s something she still works on. “It’s very hard when you see someone at your barn jumping higher, showing all the time, or has multiple horses. But everything happens for a reason.” She reminds us all that moving at your own pace is always better than rushing.

Of course, owning horses comes with its challenges too. “The most challenging experience I have had is learning I can’t be perfect every time,” Hailey said. “I’m still learning to take home the good instead of the bad at the end of the day.” That kind of honesty and growth is what makes her journey so inspiring.

During our session at Veteran’s Oasis in Gilbert, I was touched by the calm connection Hailey had with her horse and how naturally she interacted with all the horses present. They trusted her completely, nuzzled close, and moved with ease around her.

One of my favorite moments? A sweet, unposed shot when Hailey ducked under her horse’s neck for a quick cell phone photo. Her horse gently rested its neck across her shoulders—a quiet moment of love and connection that says everything about their bond.

Hailey, thank you for sharing your story and letting me capture these memories. Photographing you with your horses was an honor and such a joy. I’m so excited to watch where your journey takes you next!
