Planning a shoot for January in the woods is tricky. Will you have snow? Will you have mud? Will you be somewhere in between? What theme will look good no matter the weather?
Unable to come up with an idea, I started going back through old looking for one that would be fun to redo in the woods. Then I came across it, the Lost Boys. Snow, mud, wind, rain, I knew this styled shoot would look amazing no matter the elements.
Over the last year, I’ve loved creating my styled shoots with outfits inspired by the stories rather than direct costumes. For this session I wanted Earthy tones that truly felt like outfits the kids would have pieced together from the elements around them and allowed them to blend in for a sneak attack on the pirates. Outfits that were perfectly complimented by wooden toys that were easily found on Amazon.
As the oldest child, Jayde was the obvious choice for Pan. The younger 5 naturally becoming the lost boys. Once we added the wooden weapons and a sprinkling of falling snow, the kids were truly transformed into their characters, running wild and having sword fights in the forest.
All that was left for me, was simply to capture it.
If you loved this session as much as our tiny bear loved her crackers, be sure to check out the rest of our creative sessions coming up this spring!
