Sometimes the most magical sessions come from the most unexpected ideas. When a client asked about a Scooby-Doo themed photo session, I knew it was something special waiting to happen. My kids had already been playing a game of “spot the Mystery Machine” around town, so when I impulsively posted on Go Gilbert looking for the owner of the van, I never expected what happened next. To my surprise, there are actually TWO Mystery Machines in Gilbert—and within just 24 hours, I was connected with one of the amazing owners. Suddenly, everything fell into place.
This session with the children was pure joy from start to finish. They fully embraced each character’s personality, from Velma’s smarts to Daphne’s style, Fred’s sauve spirit, Shaggy’s love of snacks and of course, Scooby’s playful spirit. The Mystery Machine made the perfect backdrop as we recreated classic moments from the cartoon. There were so many giggles, and even a few “Zoinks!” along the way.
What I loved most was how this session mixed a little fun with just the right touch of spooky—perfect as we head into Halloween season. The kids, posed, and played, and of course we had to capture an image to sum up the most famous line from this classic cartoon: “I would have gotten away with it too, if it weren’t for you meddling kids!”
These photos captured not just the theme, but the joy of childhood, friendship, and imagination. As a Gilbert, Arizona child and horse photographer, I’m so thankful for families who help me dream up these creative sessions and trust me to bring them to life.
