The Vampires of Dance//Arizona child photographer

Darkness falls

and the vampires rise.

to dance on their graves

and to slay in so many ways.

This group is a challenge. Some of the girls on the squad are in their 3rd year with me and have done over 10 dance sessions in that time and the challenge arises in coming up with concepts that are totally unique and completely different so their portfolios stay fresh and fun and completely unique.

Two years ago we did this super fun Hocus Pocus session with the squad and I thought it was time we did another Halloween session. So I turned to Vampires thinking because I thought the use of capes would be fun for the dancers to play with in their posing.

The girls and their moms knocked these looks out of the park. 5 vampires and one Vamp Bat showed up to play. Full of creative ideas we danced and posed at the Meadow in the fading light creating yet another fun memory that I will treasure forever.

E’s mom reached out wanting to set up a special photography session for her, aiming to capture beautiful memories. As the younger of two sisters, she had never really had an opportunity to do a solo photo session (since her sister has been around since her birth) and mom felt it was past time to create a unique photography experience for her. I love to create sessions around the interests of the child, so we agreed to pick a theme that focused on just that.

Planning the photo session

I had recently complete a Rapunzel session pulling out the elements of the floating lanterns and canoe from the birthday scene, and E's mom was enamored with that session. However, I felt E needed her own moment, a session that was truly all her own. As she has a deep fondness for the little mermaid we landed on a fun two look session of the little mermaid at the The Meadow AZ so we could use the flooded yard to recreate the lagoon moment from little mermaid (sans Eric of course. this moment was all about our mermaid). Her Mom found a couple of incredible little Mermaid dresses from the Only Little Once collection and we opted for the classic version of the dress from this scene as it seemed to fit our makeshift lagoon better. Unfortunately for us, irrigation can be a bit unpredictable, so when the availability was announced we had less than a week to pull this all together. We expedited the dresses and crossed our fingers hoping that so we could make all of our photography dreams come true.

What I loved about this photography session

My favorite part of creating photo sessions like this for children is that the resulting experience is memorable. After all, when you live in the hot desert of Arizona, the last thing you would ever expect is to find yourself floating in a lagoon all your own dressed as your favorite Disney character.
