The Dance Squad Takes over the fair//Arizona Dance Photographer

I don’t think anyone will ever fully understand my love for doing pictures at the Fair, except maybe now… the dance squad does.

When 2022 started out I knew I wanted the focus of my images with my model squads to be bright and vibrant colors. I wanted to look at the images and feel happy. I wanted the image to feel visually appealing and fun to look at. I wanted to create art that was the antithesis of how muddling through the last few years had felt.

I knew the state fair would be the session to wrap up my bold and colorful year and deep down, I knew these girls would just get it. So the date was set and the day requested off and we headed down to the (hot) Arizona state fair to see how dancers would ‘do’ the fair. I assigned each girl a color for her outfit to help her stand out from the colorful backdrops we would be working against. It was a perfect day except for one thing, the heat! I could have spent HOURS exploring the fair with this group if the heat hadn’t been trying to kill us all.

After 2.5 hours we called it quits but I think you’ll agree, we created a lot of fun together.

Spidey and his Amazing Friends//Gilbert Child Photographer

A year ago THE SPIDERMAN appeared on the roof of the house in the middle of his birthday party. That day a relentless spiderman obsession was born. The last year has been filled with discussions of Green Goblin, Rhino and Doc Oc, with a particular emphasis on Green Goblin and his pumpkin bombs, and all the ways Spidey defeats him with the help of his friends.

After a year of relentless Spiderman facts, I finally decided it was time to put together his dream shoot. I reached out to two of his buddies and we brought out their Halloween costumes from 2021 for one last huurah!

My favorite part of any character session is how much the kids fully immerse themselves in being that character for the session. I get to step back and let the kids’ imaginations run free and simply document it. It’s one of the best feelings.

I had a vision of him front and center flanked by his two buddies to print for his wall. Butafter we finished the session, I couldn’t quite decide what I liked best. What do you think? Which one should we print?
